The WHO later estimated that, between 2020 and 2021, the pandemic was directly or indirectly associated with approximately 14.9 million excess deaths worldwide.
By the spring of 2021, people were already urgently imagining, performing, and sustaining the appearance of recovery. What the flower field presents may not be the reality of a pandemic that had ended, but an illusion of recovery arriving before its time.
